What's better? To downgrade Amex Platinum to Gold as you mentioned here, or to cancel Amex Platinum and then sign up for a new Amex Gold card with a sign up bonus?
You can apply to a new Amex Gold for a sign up bonus and then downgrade the Plat to a second Gold. Grocery is one of the easiest MS categories, and restaurant is also easy these days with couch MS options so the Gold is a fantastic card.
Interesting - thanks. Does timing on this matter at all that would affect approval? i.e. sign up for new Gold first, and then downgrade the Platinum? or vice versa, or doesn't matter?
If you have a personal plat you can wait a year until the annual fee hits, apply to the Amex gold first, and then downgrade the plat within 30 days of the annual fee posting to get fully reimbursed.
