Intro

In our next edition in the Successful Bum Showcase series, I am proud to introduce Camm: one of the highest earners this year. Camm has hustled all year, and believes he’s in position to earn $30K+ this year just from credit card rewards by following BowTiedBum tactics!

Below, we’ll break down his journey and how he’s been able to be so successful.

Q&A With Camm 

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your previous experience with credit cards?

Hi there, it’s CaMm. I’m currently in my mid-20s and I’m looking for ways to maximize both my earning as well as life experiences. Prior to joining the group I did not have any experience with credit cards and even thought that they were downright “evil” (“2009 credit crunch” is all I had knowledge on)

2.  Were there any misconceptions or apprehensions you had about the process initially?

-I’ve also had several family members that swear against credit. Several misconceptions live on. For one, I was not aware that credit cards even have points, let alone the fact that if you pay it off, you literally have nothing to worry about!

 3. How did you discover BowTiedBum?

-I’m big into health and fitness  and was on Twitter browsing through the bowtied community. I stumbled upon a few accounts regarding health.(

4.  In what ways has the community helped or guide you in your journey?
Are there any specific tips or advice that you found particularly
useful?

-The community has helped me immensely by drastically cutting down on the time it would take to learn everything alone by myself. It helps a lot when you can just login and message someone and get a response within an hour. It’s like I have another anon family. feels great. One tip I’d leave a beginner with is that you should not be afraid to spend money. A lot people (including my prior self) have limiting beliefs about money. In this game (FBA included), the more you can spend, the more rewards you can squeeze out of everything. For example, I took it upon myself in April 2023 to try and hit the Amex business platinum 190000MR point sign up bonus in one week. I was up every day ordering goods on Amazon like a mad man. I spent $15,000 in 10 days. Maybe it’s my personality, but I believe in the long run, you practically have to see yourself winning, and the only way to do this is to drop the limiting beliefs and go for it.

5. What was your biggest "Oh shit, this is crazy" moment?

-Booking a flight in May 2023. I followed a few videos on YouTube and was able to transfer some AMEX points to British Airways Avois. Long story short, what should have been a $4000 round-trip to Dubai cost me roughly 100,000 MR points ($1000).

6. Can you share some of your biggest wins?

This might be a strange answer, but I consider my biggest win being that I now have a crazy, borderline autistic eye for detail. I’ve been filling Excel spreadsheets & tracking spending using the methods thought in this group with extreme detail. This eventually lead to me being better and tracking my personal expenses, being a better professional at my w2 job that really makes mistakes anymore… and being an overall better planner (dates, vacations, giving gifts etc)..since I now know how to maximize and get a literally every every single dollar I spend.

7. How long did it take to achieve these milestones?

Roughly 2 to 3 months is when I started seeing dividends pay. Some people can do it sooner but realistically, you have to wait for approvals, Amazon shipments, payouts etc.

8. Did you face any challenges or setbacks?  If so, how did the community help you overcome them?

I’m naturally a visual learner, so there have been times when things didn’t click. All it took was logging into Slack chatting with a few people and the answers would 99% of the time fix any setbacks ahead

9. Any dream redemptions or experience you're working towards?

Having always been very active, I’ve always dreamed of seeing Olympics live. I believe there’s a very good chance. I make that happen in 2024. (For free!)

10. Would you recommend that others join BowTiedBum?

Absolutely not! JK!..
Just do yourself a favor and join. give it 2 to 3 months and you’ll see how your life can change. Or maybe you don’t like travel, no problem… take the points, converted into cash and do as you please. It’s really simple.

11. What's the most memorable story related to your points journey so far?

For several months I was told that having a P2 (player 2) would take this game to a whole new level. The thing is, no one believed me when I asked them to be my P2. Family members declined, some friends thought it was too good to be true. In June 2023, I met a cool chick who always talked about traveling, and how she wanted to experience new things with me. Instead of selling her on the benefits of credit cards & points. I simply said : “ I’m literally part of a group of “bums” who travel for free, and do whatever we want (within reason). You can too. We should. Let’s do it.” If this plays out the way I’m projecting, I should be above $30000 for the year 2023. & if it doesn’t work out with the P2… I still get to travel, stay at nice hotels and do my thing for free. (Their loss ;))
