Intro
Had two members in the Slack Group ask for this post, so here it is.
For those that are new, in addition to being able to ask questions in the Slack, you can submit a request in the #postrequests channel for a comprehensive post on any topic you’d like to see get fully covered.
***Bum Note*** As this point, every bum should have a clear path to getting a solid return on their rent payments.
Bilt Intro
Bilt Rewards is a relatively new program that has been generating a lot of buzz. It offers members the ability to easily pay rent and generate rewards points in a no-fuss, no-nonsense manner. This post will discuss an overview of the program, and benefits and disadvantages of using Bilt over other programs.
I briefly covered Bilt as well as a few other programs in the Landlords are Zeros post. Please read that if you haven’t yet, to get a better understanding of the various methods.
Bilt Rewards
The Bilt Rewards card is a a no-fee MasterCard card that is issued by Wells Fargo. There is no signup bonus although they do run promotions that offer 5X on all purchases for the first 5 days.
While 5X sound great, it’s only for the first 5 days…And many bums are getting 7-8% back on all purchases via the 8% cashback method, so this is really nothing special.
If you get the Bilt Mastercard, you can pay rent with your credit card through the Bilt Rewards app and they send a physical check on your behalf.
Reward Categories
Card holders earn up to 100,000 points per year and:
2X on travel
3X on dining
1X on all other purchases (including rent)
Note on Bilt Rent Day (the first day of each month), you can earn double points: 4X travel, 6X dining and 2X everything else (except rent).
Also - note that you must use the Bilt card at least 5 times during your statement period in order to earn any points. This is their way of trying to get you to use the card consistently on things other than rent.
